I've watched cassette tapes go from widely used to almost non-existent. I've also now found that in my household, it's hard to find a CD player, or a place to put the few CDs I do still have. We also have three VHS tapes that I've had for years, but nothing to play them on.

Things come and go so fast now--I'm only 27. That's really young. It's not like I'm 87. When I think of all the things my grampa saw... wow.

What else will I see come and go?

The CD player in the dining room plays Aaron Neville in the mornings. I don't know why.

Insert Title Here

It's naptime, and Elijah brought one of his train cars to bed. He waved it around for the first three and a half minutes of nursing, but as his eyes started to close, he set the train car down on his chest, between us, and rested his hand on me. He's in a mood today because of diaper rash, but this cuddle time is welcome. He'll be asleep when Winamp makes the transition from Suzanne Vega to The Sisters of Mercy.

---

A week ago, in the car, he was exhausted and angry at being restrained, and screamed and screamed and screamed, refusing to fall asleep. I put on his sleep playlist (thank goodness for cell phones that play music!), and he screamed through the first two Suzanne Vega songs. As soon as the first Sisters of Mercy song started, he stopped screaming, listened for fifteen seconds, made an annoyed fussy sound, and closed his eyes. He was fully asleep. I don't think he even stirred when he was removed from the car seat and carried over Daddy's shoulder.

Toddler breakfast these days may include a bowl of Cheerios, two bananas, three clementines and some cheese. He loves to eat.

Things to Share Today

Kristina Olsen is awesome. You can listen to music on her MySpace page. I recommend Better Than TV.

It's What You Do With What You Got may be my new favourite song, but only when Mama Kacy sings it.

Cloudstreet is worth a listen if you can find them. You can hear some of their songs here.

And I'm reading about spinning wheels.

That's my post today.

Day three!

Pandora.com is awesome right now. Depeche Mode and the Sisters of Mercy are the basis of the station I'm listening to now. It feeds me Marianne Faithfull and Tom Waits. Crazy!

---

I have too many tabs open. Some of them are for sharing. This is sharing, right?

A subway ad for the movie 2012 - this is pretty impressive.

OMG Katamari baby!!

Periodic Table. Really.

Snugglesafe - I really want one of these. It gets cold in Elijah's room at night. My feet freeze.

Homework Win - Awesome!

Raccoons and a bus - for some reason all I can think is "Does this bus go tae the Dennistoun Palais?"

And last but most amazingly:

And ashes, and ashes, and ashes, and ashes, and ashes...

I've listened to the Floodland album by the Sisters of Mercy once or twice a day (sometimes more) every day for the last nine months. And I'm not tired of it yet. You'd think I would be.

* * *

Elijah had his nine month check-up today; he was 28 inches tall (meaning he has two inches to go before he's half my height) and 18.7lbs. He smiled at the doctor until she started sticking things in his ears. I sang the Werewolves Go Marching for him, which kept him from screaming at her. She did not comment.

"The werewolves go marching one by one, aroo, aroo..."

* * *

Sometimes, what one needs is a really good, frantic, snotty, childish cry, while someone holds you and tells you it's going to be okay. Even if it isn't, not right away.

Picture time.

4:50pm

I'm sitting in my apartment, House on Brian's computer (we don't have a TV) while I stare at my computer. Elijah has been with Dani since 2pm.

I feel very strange, like I'm doing what I should be doing.

I should either be taking care of my boy, or working my ass off to clean the apartment. Arrrg.

I took a nice long scrubby shower and washed my hair. That was definitely necessary, and was nice. Then I had a bagel, some mac and cheese, and some coffee. And then I packed up the books in our bedroom... which is a small dent in the packing, but it's something.

What can I say about the last few days? Oh my. There's been a lot of stress. Mostly house-related, some relationship-related. But things are doing better now, and I've had the chance to relax, and hopefully Brian has to.

And babyface is enjoying his day with his auntie Dani, which is awesome. I hope he's not screaming about food or a nap or whatever... arg. I wish I could watch them, but that would kind of defeat the purpose of giving me some time to relax.

Although this does make me think about how much I could get done if he were away for three or four hours every weekday. And that makes me feel kind of bad. Sigh.

* * *

Last night, I fell in love with John Lee Hooker. This is a revelation.

And I decided a few days ago that we need to listen to music more often. So we will.

* * *

Things I've found in the trash lately:
-high chair
-a Graco Chauffer stroller
-a Graco DuoGlider stroller
-a Combi stroller (this is the one we're using now)
-a working CD player

The day I found the high chair, we were going to go out that night and buy one. The day I found the CD player, I'd been thinking a few minutes before, "It'd be nice to have a CD player in the bathroom, to listen to while we're in the bath." And boom!... there was a CD player. It was awesome.

* * *

In the last few days, Elijah has tried:
-pho (so-so)
-avocado (not so good)
-yoghurt (more more more!)
-chocolate icecream (just a tiny taste)
-mac and cheese (okay-ish)

I'm uploading a lot of pictures to Picasa, I'll post a link and/or some shots soon.
