It's 7am and we're awake.

What to do first? Put dye in my hair? Take baby and dogs for a walk? The dogs are looking at me like I'm insane, so perhaps they don't need a walk. But they sure will get Dramamine before we head out -.-

(Actually, Beanie will get Dramamine and Remmy will get Benadryl and Clavamox. But yeah.)

Rambling. Don't want to start work.

Elijah says, "Ba ba ba ba ba ba ba!!"

Thursday, July 30, 2009

Quick, then sleep.

What Elijah has eaten today:
-grahm crackers
-lots and lots of Cheerios
-some cucumber
-more than 1/4th of a singing wolf
-a grilled chicken breast
-more Cheerios
-some sautee'd zucchini (not much)
-more graham crackers

---

We leave for KY in the morning.

10+ hours in the car with a baby who doesn't like his car seat, a dog who gets car sick, and a complete lack of Kacy.

Give me strength.

Pocoyo - Don't Touch!

Pocoyo is awesome! I'll have to find more videos and more info later.

It's a day.

There are new videos at our YouTube channel.

---

We're watching B5 again.

"You understand?" "No. But understanding is not required. Only obedience."

We have cookies.

Beanie looks comfortable. And confused.

I've done a lot of laundry today, but I didn't take pictures of it. Also cleaned the kitchen, slept, played with the boy, and whined a lot. And took considerable amounts of ibuprofen.

Vet bills and vet bills, oh my -.-

At the end of this week, we're headed to KY for a wedding and to take Remmy to the vet. He needs dental work and shots, and, well, we'll be there, and I trust my vet out there, and it'll be a LOT cheaper.

So of course tonight, Remmy went and got himself bitten or stung on his left front paw by something, and was lying out in the yard looking forlorn and not wanting to put enough pressure on the paw to walk into the house.

So one emergency vet visit later, I've found a decent vet in the area to stay with, and Remmy's been to the vet twice as many times this month as he was supposed to be.

A poem on the wall of the exam room I was in made me want to be a vet tech. For about five minutes. Until I remembered that I cry if I have to make a phone call, get migraines from fluorescent lights and cleaners and bleach and other strange chemically things, and shake if forced to meet and deal with new people.

Elijah enjoyed the vet waiting room. Until he got bored and started screaming.

I need some sleep.

G'night.

A picture.

The cub is sitting in the chair behind me, playing with my cell phone, while I sit on the floor staring at my computer. We're still watching B5. Every once in a while, I turn around, and he smiles at me and I smile and he says, "Ah!" and I smile more.

Elijah and I are watching Babylon-5.

I am eating a potato.

My brain isn't working very well.

This unnamed malaise is difficult to explain. I sort of hurt. My eyes are puffy. My stomach is out of sorts. But my hair is partly blonde.

I think I just need more sleep.

And more water.

How about more pictures?

We have an awesome chair.

Elijah says the chair isn't so awesome.

Water bottles are cooler.

Mostly pictures.

Preparing for a trip to KY to visit Grandmere:

Me: [to Elijah] We have to pack some toys for you.
Grandmere: Pack some toys?! Are you CRAZY?! It's like carrying coals to Newcastle!

---

I'm staring at the blank blogger window and feeling pretty tapped out right now.

So here are some pictures.

Making the GPS go for Daddy.

Getting to be such a big boy.

Brothers in crime?

Serious boy.

There are a lot more here:

Elijah

Morning, and time for rest.

It's nearly 9am and Elijah is still asleep--but I've been up for an hour. This is unusual, strange, and kind of nice.

I'm sitting here trying to put together a coherent article for Squidoo, and going through my email, and drinking tea, and watching Remmy chew on a piece of rawhide. What I really should be doing is waking Elijah up so we can go for our morning walk before the plumber is scheduled to be here, but, well, I just don't want to wake him up. Who would? He's so sweet and cuddly. Mostly I want to just curl back up with him and go back to sleep.

I may do that.

Brittle things break before they turn...

Feeling kinda burnt out tonight, although today was a good day. We had an excellent dinner of baked potato soup (store-bought, but still very tasty) in bread bowls, with tomato, fresh basil and mozzarella as a side. I am out of balsamic vinegar, though, so it was a little bland with only olive oil and salt. But pretty tasty anyway. And dessert was mango with lime and salt. I am quite sated, food-wise, at the moment.

Elijah LOVED the mango, he kept fussing for more, and shoving it all in his mouth and going "ahh ahh ahh". Very cute.

---

I want to write some short articles to go on places like EZ Articles and HubPages and Squidoo. Anyone have any suggestions on what sort of things to write?

---

Today was a migraine day, from about 2pm till 8pm or so. There was little aura, and some joint pain. My migraines are so different than they used to be . . . it's very odd, and I think it's going to be time for some doctors' visits and official diagnosis soon.

Storms make me happy.

Despite getting to sleep way too late and getting up way too early, today was nice. We acquired more double-yolk eggs, ten (ten!) beautiful scarves, some little stuff from IKEA, and a wonderful antique chair. We had lunch with Amanda, Beth (Auntie Nom Nom!) and Josh at a Korean place, and dinner with those three plus Chris B, Dani and her new guy (who gets my approval but still can't take her to live in Alabama). Elijah ate a lot of food and refused to nurse until bedtime (please please please don't make that a regular thing yet... give me a few more months, please, baby boy!). We had IKEA frozen yoghurt. It was a good day.

The best part of all, however, was riding in the car, Sisters of Mercy blasting on the stereo, rain pouring down, the storm raging around us, watching the other cars dance on the road. I saw more streak lightning in that half hour than I did in 12 years in Kentucky, where it was all sheet lightning.

To my utter amazement, I do not currently have a migraine, or even any joint pain. My joints are stiff, as usual, but I'm used to that. And my muscles are sore, but that seems normal after walking all day and carrying a heavy baby for most of it.

So yeah. A good day.

Sigh.

Arrrg. I just spent the last three and a half hours trying to help Elijah get to sleep. It took that long for whatever was making him so uncomfortable to subside--I suspect teeth.

But we had a very nice hour or so cuddling on the futon and watching the Baby Sign DVD. I was surprised that he was content to just sit in my lap, playing with my hand and chewing on his hand and feeling my arms around him, while he stared intently at the tv. Amazed. He's never done that before, and it was very nice.

Now it's time for me to wind down enough to sleep. Which is why I'm staring at a blogger window.

Let's clear out some tabs...

From StumbleUpon:
A giraffe licking a very red squirrel.
Street Installations - some of these are oddly disturbing.
The Mapping of a Cat's Brain - Lyn and Jen will like this one :)
Things That Make You Go Aahh - More cute animal pictures. Some amazingly cute wombat pictures, of all things.

I'm hungry. And exhausted. And I have to get up early, because we made plans. Sigh.

But--those plans involve IKEA. So maybe the day will overcome the lack of sleep and be awesome anyway. We shall see. I think there will have to be significant amounts of ibuprofen and tea. I wish I could take Vicodin.

Night night... again ;)

Friday! It's Friday!

And I'm still Pollution, but I'm doing better today. So much less pain...

---

We received the Your Baby Can Read DVDs in the mail today :D I am ridiculously happy about that. Elijah watched through most of the first DVD before getting bored. He laughed at most of it. Hopefully he won't be completely uninterested as the month wears on :) The program says to watch the starter DVD twice a day for a month. I figure it's worth a shot :D

---

11pm - Day == success.

-kitchen cleaned
-dinner made
-some laundry dealt with
-bedrooms cleaned
-livingroom cleaned
-diningroom cleaned
-floors swept
-birthday party attended (briefly)
-home time w/ B

Time to go get the boy from his Marcian adventures. Then. Then sleep.

Night night.

AdSense

I've modified the placements of the ads--let me know if it gets annoying and I'll change it.

I am Pollution.

It's about to storm. This makes me unbelievably happy.

---

Today was not a good day: I didn't sleep last night (Elijah did), woke up in a lot of pain (head, joints, shoulders, back, eyes), moped around all day, gave a virus access to my computer, and watched Elijah pull the PS2 off of its perch. It crashed to the floor and stopped working.

Brian fixed both PS2 and computer when he got home, because he is awesome that way.

The evening was much improved: Dinner with my boys, then a walk outside in the dark while the storm rolled in.

---

I wish I had more interesting things to say today, but I don't think I do. I haven't checked out StumbleUpon yet... maybe I will and post again.

If anyone has any particular ideas that I should ramble about, feel free to comment with them? (Sonja, I bet you could come up with a few :) )

Life!

I think we're falling into a rhythm we can all three live with. Elijah and I have been getting up either just before or just after Brian leaves for work, and then we hang out for a while in the living room, Elijah playing in his playpen, me eating cereal and dealing with the morning's email and, today, poking through blog promotion sites and wondering whether I can be awesome enough to participate in blog communities and talk to other bloggers and connect, despite fear of being completely uninteresting.

Was that one long run-on sentence? That right there should prove why I'm not awesome enough for that.

Oh well. My constant fallback excuse--it's my blog and I'll do what I want ;)

9:48am - Elijah just this moment took TWO steps across the middle of the playpen! He's only taken one at a time until now :D

---

Elijah was getting fussy, but we can't go out walking yet--we're waiting for the plumber to arrive. So I turned on Moulin Rouge... when the lights and music started, he giggled and bounced and waved his arms at the tv :)

---

11:30am

Dinner is in the crock pot, and for that I am proud of myself.

Dinner:
Whole chicken, stuffed with jowl bacon, onion, celery, butter. Put in the crock pot on top of potatoes. Some water. Salt. Pepper. 7 hours on low.

We'll see :)

---

I think I have a new addiction.

Stuff StumbleUpon showed me today:
StuffOnMyCat.com
TasteSpotting - WOW!
ReadPrint - free classics ebooks
The Size of Our World - the size of Earth relative to other things in the universe... pretty cool
CookingByNumbers - this is pretty awesome.
Let's Be Friends
Cut Up Machine
WikiSky - This is difficult to explain... just check it out.

---

Noon - Naptime. Do I get to sleep, too? No, because the plumber isn't here yet. Although... the bed looks awfully inviting...

---

2:30pm - Still no plumber. And no call from plumber? Ah, well. Time for food and a long walk now, I think.

---

Elijah is watching the Baby Sign video--actually paying attention to it. I don't know why it's so hard for me to remember to do the signs... I suppose it's that consistancy is always a problem for me :p

But I'm going to try.

-milk
-eat
-more
-"all done"

Later:
-daddy
-mama
-dog
-up

8pm-ish

Hehehehe some guy who is doing work for a security company just came to the door and in the course of the conversation he said that he does contractor work on the side, "with some Hispanics". He talked about that a bit, and then I said, "Do you have proof of paying taxes on that?" and he said, "Taxes? Hell no! It's all under the table." And Brian burst out laughing.

And did not say that he works for the IRS ;)

And when the guy said his name and held out his hand, Brian said, "Brian." the guy held his hand to me, I said, "Coyote." he said "Nuh-uh o.o" I said, "Cherokee." as if I answer that question all the time. And he was in awe.

---

9:40pm

Time to lie down and nurse the boy off to sleep. He was cranky from about 5pm onwards, but refused to sleep until we were outside walking in the dark, with him all snug in the Moby Wrap. To my amazement, getting him out of the Moby Wrap and lying down to nurse didn't wake him up until his head actually touched the mattress. Then he wouldn't open his eyes, just scrunch up his face and whine until I laid down next to him and he found the nipple.

Hopefully he will sleep well tonight.

Goodnight, all.

11am
Sitting in Elijah's room

Elijah's got his last burst of crazy energy before naptime, so he's laughing his head off at me, at Remmy, at everything. Then finding something to cry about for 5 seconds. Then laughing again. He's crawling around the room, carrying things.

10pm

I find that we are in the same position that we were at 11am--he's being obnoxiously energetic before bed, playing with toys and my camera, and talking a lot.

And now he has hiccups, which is adorable :)

Inventory of recent injuries.

These are MY injuries, not Elijah's--he's much less clumsy than I am. Plus made of rubber.

-right foot still sore from dropping heavy glass egg on it
-right knee bruised from banging into a door frame
-right thumb healing from an impressive cut with a kitchen knife
-bruise of unknown origin on right thigh-nose still sore from Elijah slamming his head into it on Friday
-both big toes have been stubbed

I'm sure there's more that I'm forgetting. It's insane.

Sleep Mist == useful.

I really need to start keeping notes during the day.

Let's see...

I had bacon chocolate cake for breakfast. Actually, I think I had Honey Bunches of Oats with organic whole milk plus some heavy whipping cream for breakfast. Then we went walking with the Thai neighbour, and then when we got home I had bacon cake... and Elijah had watermelon and goldfish crackers.

How much will I enjoy these mundane details when I reread this blog?

More than you can possibly imagine.

---

The day has been quiet and sleepy. Elijah's been pretty cranky for the last few days--some of it diaper rash (cleared up now, yay!), some of it teeth, I think. Some may be too much Korean food :p And possibly a growth spurt. He's seemed taller every morning for the last four days.

We ate and walked and played Katamari today. And pulled books off the shelves. And then we napped for about four hours, which was nice but meant I was in a sugar crash when I woke up because I hadn't been eating correctly today (cereal. bacon cake. cheese. too infrequently. tomorrow will be better.), so the last hour before Brian got some was kinda iffy. But we played more Katamari :p

The weekend yard sale/flea market finds were incredible--an old solid wood writing desk for $10, Katamari Damacy for $5, a massive mirror in a frame for $25. Other things were baby toys, baby clothes, clothes for me, a mirror for the back of the car so Elijah can see us up front, a pack of double-yolk eggs from PA (I am unbelievably happy about these), a couple of gun holsters for costuming, some board books. AND THEN I went to a Cam game while Elijah and Brian went to the mall, and actually had fun and didn't worry about them.

Well, okay, I worried a little. I checked my phone every two minutes. But I had fun! I had conversations! I laughed! I relaxed! It was great :D

And my knees hurt like crazy afterwards from wearing high heels, but it was still great.

And Saturday was ended falling asleep cuddling up with my boys (all of them--Brian, Elijah, Remmy... Beanie ran off to hide under something and stay far away from us), all of us piled onto Elijah's bed. We slept till . . . 7:30am. Then went to more garage sales. Then off to aunt Dani's for clutch dinner and discussion. Dani's mashed potatoes and Beth's pot roast were INCREDIBLE. And it reminds me that I need to make mashed potatoes more often.

The weekend also involved entirely too much Korean food, which was awesome but possibly a mistake :p

Yes, this post is pure rambling for my own sake.

Some day I'll quit bothering to make that point.

---

DOUBLE YOLK EGGS OMG!!!

The yolk is my absolute favourite part of the egg. I've made five or six overeasy fried eggs just for me, just so I can spoon up the yolk. AND THESE THINGS HAVE TWO NORMAL SIZED YOLKS PER EGG!!! It's the best thing in the WORLD! :D :D :D

---

Dinner tonight was leftover pot roast, leftover mashed potatoes, broccoli, saffron rice, and cheese. It was tasty and very filling.

---

I want some icecream!

---

Shaving reviews should resume tomorrow-ish. Hopefully.

Bacon cake, oh yes. And I am having TEA in the morning!

Zinc oxide smells awful. But does wonders for diaper rash.

Also apparently blogger posts saved posts as the date they were written, not the date they were posted, so my post that says that my birthday was the day before it was posted (ha, follow that?) actually claims to have been posted on my birthday.

My birthday was July 16. Yes.

I am so TIRED today.

But Dani made bacon chocolate cake that was COMPLETELY AMAZING, so it's okay.

G'night!

Thursday, July 16, 2009

This post is from yesterday.

It's my birthday today.

But that means less than this: Elijah is 11 months old today. In exactly one month, he will be a year old o.O

And today I got joint pain for my birthday. But also a nice long walk in the humid heat, which helped ease the pain.

---

Before I lie down to write blog posts, I have all kinds of things I want to blog about, and as soon as I open the blank blogger page, they all fly out of my head and I can't think of a single one. Sigh.

So we'll start with the basics--

Food

Breakfast: I had leftover tom gha gai. Elijah had graham crackers, goldfish crackers, and water.

Lunch: Two soft-boiled eggs, two cucumbers, some little heirloom cherry tomatoes, with salt and olive oil. Elijah liked the cucumbers, and was not so interested in the eggs. I LOVED the eggs, they were perfect. Thank you, Lyn, for saying to boil them for three minutes. Elijah also had goldfish crackers. He eats a lot of those.

Dinner: Scrambled eggs, leftover steak, cheese, tortillas, saffron rice. Elijah enjoyed all of these, and gobbled up plenty of scrambled eggs and saffron rice. I ate mine with lots of Red Hot.

Snacks were mostly graham crackers, tea, and chocolate icecream.

Shaving

AOS unscented shaving cream lathered beautifully and quickly. And I'm impatient, so it probably would have been even better if I'd kept working it.

Today's shave was quite smooth, using plenty of pre-shave oil and holding a hot towel on all parts to be shaved for a while before actual shaving. Also plenty of high-quality lather from the AOS stuff, and multiple re-latherings and passes. It was nice.

Derby blade remains good.

I think I like the DR Harris stuff better than the AOS, though.

Wednesday, July 15, 2009

Korean food is awesome.

Shaving stuff:

Derby blade == AWESOME

Taylor's St James == did not lather as well as DR Harris, scent strange in a cloying way, did not like.

I did like the lingering scent of the St James, though.

---

We had dinner at a Korean place tonight, because my birthday is tomorrow. Elijah ate lots of rice and some bulgogi, and LOTS of miso. He was loving the miso.

Bed-time snack was: Bananana, graham cracker, goldfish crackers, water. Beanie ate some banana.

---

While in the shower today, I managed to drop a large, heavy, very SOLID decorative glass egg on my foot.

It hurt.

A lot.

---

I want some more bulgogi. Or cinnamon buns.

Or bacon chocolate.

Night night.

On Shaving & Babies

...although not shaving babies. That would just be silly. It's taken the boy too long to grow what little hair he has. Shaving it would reset the clock and make me cry.

---

Shaving equipment makes me happy. Please see Badger & Blade and my shaving stuff.

Since I'm mostly a dirty hippie and had shaved my legs once in the last fifteen years, actually buying shaving stuff was new for me. But ohhh it's all so beautiful. And now obviously I have to do some shaving, to justify it all. Although my primary goal is to learn to shave Brian's face. Why? I was probably a personal gentleman's gentleman in a past life.

For my own archives, because I need the information:

DR Harris Marlborough Shave Cream: Light, feminine scent - not my thing, but not bad. Overwhelmed by scent of new, never-before-used badger brush. Lather seemed great, but I have nothing to compare it to. Shave was smoother than yesterday.

---

Tonight's routine was nice. Elijah sat in his BRAND NEW HIGH CHAIR (there'd be a picture of it if Picasa weren't acting up) and ate a bananana and a graham cracker and drank a lot of water, then we had a bath (so now he smells like honey), then Brian took the babyface to dry him off and get him ready for bed. They played in Elijah's room while I played with my shaving stuff. They were theoretically supposed to be straightening up Elijah's room, but that only happened after I had my pajamas on and was standing in the doorway ;)

Then I sprayed this strange Bath & Body Works Sleep Mist (acquired at a garage sale for free) onto the pillow and we settled down for nursing and Sisters of Mercy and blogging and reading B&B.

---

I need to remember that we need to eat banananananas and cucumbers tomorrow. Someone should remind me.

Tooth!

Oh--I forgot to mention. A seventh tooth broke through yesterday, so Elijah has been really cranky lately (and by really cranky, I mean just mildly fussy, which is pretty cranky for him).

It's the one just to the left (his left) of the bottom incisors. I make this note because I'll be wondering about that when I read this post ten years from now.

Saturday!

What a day.

Scoring cheap veggies from Occoquan farmer's market: check.

Scoring baby clothes and toys from garage sales: check.

Occoquan is pretty awesome, too. Like, srsly.

(Hi Mom.)

I need sleep.

People should check out the Occoquan Farmer's Market. It's tiny, but this is its first year. If I find a link that can help with promoting it, I'll post it later.

Honey-scented /everything/.

Except the dog. The dog is not honey-scented.

See? Dog. 1 dog, scent: dog.

But the baby is honey-scented.

See? 1 baby, scent: honey.

His room is clean, and now has a tunnel to play in, a tower to keep toys in, a hammock to keep toys in, and a shelf with hooks.

See? Hammock.

See? Shelf and tower and tube.

---

We've been walking through the park lately. Here are some pictures:

The walking bridge over the train tracks, graded for wheelchairs and bicycles.

The park has a large pool.

And pretty trails.

And a swamp.

And ducks.

---

In unrelated news, I was ordering a Thai/English-English/Thai dictionary off Amazon, because one of my neighbours is Thai and wants help learning English. This item was approximately $10, and so to get free shipping, I added another book to make the total up to $25.

Except that it made the total up to $24.95.

Five cents.

FIVE CENTS.

The shipping would be $13.

So I added a $10 book :p

---

Things Elijah has eaten today:

-Cheerios with milk
-goldfish crackers
-graham crackers
-bagel chips
-ricotta and cinnamon-sugar and butter on a tortilla
-cottage cheese
-more bagel chips
-more cottage cheese
-cauliflower
-banana
-chicken
-saffron rice
-more banana
-more bagel chips
-lots and lots of water
-lots and lots of mama milk

Incidentally, the dog used to look like this:

This post brought to you by tea, playtime, and ibuprofen.

I realized that everything I was telling Corinna today should be a blog post, but I am too tired to rewrite it.

So here is that email in full, almost completely without context. Please enjoy ;)

"Er. Not "don't make the basement useable" but DO make the basement useable. Plans that DO make the basement possible for us to use.
Yeah.
The plans involve making sure the plumbing is fixed, first of all, so the basement stays dry... then cleaning it a lot, because it is dusty and dirty and stuff. And then painting the floor, then hanging a lot of fabric on the cinderblock walls, then putting down a lot of rugs everywhere to warm it up some. Then shelves and furniture and stuff. It will be eclectic and awesome :D
I do still read FlyLady sometimes. I'm trying to follow the principles a little more... I've mostly managed to do one load of laundry a day for a few days, so that's a start. I've also made sure dinner was ready for the last three days, and that's better than I've been doing lately.
I've also been trying to keep Elijah's room tidy. It makes me smile to see it all nice and babyproof and straightened up. We can go in there during the day and he can crawl all around and play.
I cleaned the hallway out tonight, so it is clear and walkable :D That makes me happy.
I also cleared out three crates and two boxes of stuff in the bedroom... so it's coming along as well.
The current rules are: Keep Elijah's room tidy. Keep the hallway clear.
Eventually the same will apply to all the other rooms, one at a time... the diningroom and kitchen seem to be almost impossible for that, but it will come. Especially when the basement is set up for use and storage. *claps her hands*
I also won a level of Katamari that has stumped me for a few days.
Tomorrow, I will continue to work on the bedroom. One day, it will be cleared out and looking good.
Maybe I'll post pictures tomorrow too."

As a side note, I've been playing Evony today. I don't know why. I've also been playing Vampire Wars on Facebook, but that's not new. And it's just to watch the numbers rise.

Speaking of trashy mindless vampire-ness, why in the name of all that is holy can I not find a copy of the third Twilight book? We've been on four different excursions to three different stores to look for it, and for some reason they have all the others, but not the third one. What? Why? All I want is my mindless trash to read in the shower--what is so karmically wrong with that that the cosmos is not allowing me to find this book? Arrrg!

There. I think I needed that rant ;)

As usual, InTuneWithSpirit.com and the Sisters of Mercy are helping keep me sane. In addition, so is the audiobook of A Confederacy of Dunces. I love that book so much. I've never read another book where the main character is so despicable, yet the book is amazingly entertaining. It's just wonderful.

I had a short-lived, air pressure-induced migraine today--from about 3pm to 9pm. Okay, maybe not so short-lived; 8 hours is probably about normal for me. The strange thing was that as my joints were seizing up and my head being fitted into a vice, Elijah became more and more energetic and obnoxious. It wasn't my perception that makes me feel that way--he was honestly more bouncy, and was taking delight in hitting me in the face. We took a bit of a nap and then Brian was home and I was rescued and able to hide under a shawl for a while.

---

Hmmm. No, I really don't think the tiny details of my life are interesting to the Internet at large, or even my friends. But I know they will be interesting to me in fifteen years, and that's why they're here.

Most life-saving meal this weekend: A McDonalds cheeseburger Happy Meal with fries and chocolate milk. OMG that chocolate milk was what I needed right then.

We have been to IKEA three days in a row. We have two Billy bookcases, a Benno DVD case, an Expedit 5x5 shelf system, three black shoe storage bins, a tube thing for Elijah to play with, babyproofing items, rails to hang kitchen things from, and and and... so much stuff.

We've also been to Salvation Army, yard sales, Craigslist sellers, and Bottom Dollar Food. We have chickens, a ham, tortillas, pork skins, broccoli, bananas. A computer armoire, an IKEA coffee table, candles, baskets, plushies for Elijah (given to him for free by the yard sale people), a toy hammock, magazines, clothes.

We've done so much shopping this weekend, and so much assembly-of-stuff. I feel like we got an amazing amount of stuff done, but also like I've done nothing. Ahh, perfectionism.

Tomorrow I need to get back to--
-cleaning the kitchen
-making food
-doing laundry
-walking the dogs
-shining the sink
-tidying Elijah's room at night
-relaxing!
-Katamari
-organizing stuff

Yeah.

So tired.

Perhaps tomorrow I'll write about being overwhelmed by the things I need to do, rather than doing the things I need to do.

Thursday, July 2, 2009

Decent day.

Today has been odd. I think Elijah has cried a total of maybe 45 seconds. Mostly we've been playing, or he's been playing by himself. That's pretty awesome.

Update-ish thing?

9:30am
Home
listening to the stream at InTuneWithSpirit.com

The house is coming along. I'll have pictures... some day.

My brain hurts today. I'm really only here at blogger because it's morning and my head hurts and I don't want to go out into the sunlight for the morning walk we've been taking lately. But I will. In a bit. When the tea kicks in.

Elijah is afraid of the Swiffer Sweeper Vac. It seems like a pretty decent tool so far, but he screams when I use it, even if I'm carrying him in the Moby Wrap, so I'm not sure how much I'll be using it.

If I haven't said, the sheep of a tiny dog that was Remmy is now the new and improved Remmy--shaved down to less than an inch, pink skin showing through the bright white fur. He had an oatmeal-shampoo bath yesterday and was not pleased about.

---

Breakfast: Leftover saffron rice with lots of butter, and an egg, cooked in the toaster oven (because our stove isn't hooked up yet).

---

Elijah is currently alternately playing with his toys in his playpen, and standing up to fuss at me to throw soft jingly balls at his head. For some reason that's quite a fun game.

I need drawers. And a wardrobe, because the closet that spans the entire width of our bedroom is not big enough for the two of us. Seriously. We are LARPers, and both have more costuming than everyday clothing. And I was raised by my grandmother, so I have an awful lot of everyday clothing... I've already gotten rid of everything I'm willing to get rid of, so at this point it's a matter of organizing it so that 1. I know what I have, 2. It stays clean and relatively wearable.

11am

Elijah woke up from his nap, rolled over, and hit the space bar on the laptop, successfully unpausing the Sisters of Mercy. Then he smiled at me.

---

1:12pm

Morning walk completed, late. Salsa consumed. Katamari played. Elijah is playing in his playpen, putting toys into the dog bowl. My tongue is burning.

---

3:43pm

Elijah is napping. Logically, after a mostly sleepless night, I should be as well, but the ibuprofen and tea and regular infusions of protein have done their job and I am more or less functional right now... so I am putting pictures up on Facebook. Why not Picasa? Oh, who knows. I'll put some up on Picasa later. I think I'm just craving comments.

I made fresh bread! Praise be for the bread machine (which was free). This is happiness, for the moment.

4:20pm

Sometimes I feel like some sort of uneducated imposter because I've never watched Julia Child or read any of her cookbooks.

---

10pm

Bedtime. Cuddling with the squirmy boy while he nurses, hoping he'll sleep soon. I want a clove and some icecream and t sit in the rain with the dogs. It's an evening of feeling sorry for myself for my lack of freedom. But it's okay. Or rather, it will be okay when the discussions of what other people do with their freedom fades, and when I've had a night's sleep.

Goodnight.
